Identity Holo Rare, Unlimited. Factory printer-ink line across the holo, not damage; NO ACETONE (decided 2026-09-19), left as printed. NO SLABBING (client standing rule).

Work performed

  • A full intake walk of the front, and of the back as far as the right edge, with nine zones scored out loud and a pre-grade of 7 overall.
  • Both faces cleaned. The card was not dirty.
  • The line across the holo was examined under magnification: it is dried printer ink, printed onto the foil at the factory, not a marker line or damage. Cleaning did not remove it.
  • Acetone might remove that ink. Decided 2026-09-19: no acetone. The ink line stays as it was printed, and is noted here as part of this card.
  • The edges and their whitening were deliberately not worked, to avoid leaving visible marks.
  • Polished, front and back.
  • Pressed from 2026-09-12 to 2026-09-19, seven days, to take out a curvature from being stored on its side.

Sabrina's Gengar condition map

Hover or tap any zone to read its grade and what was said about it.

Tap a zone for what was said about it. Edges and corners are one piece of cardboard seen from either side; quadrants are the two faces' own surfaces. A zone marked ? was described but never scored, so no number is claimed for it.

A subjective in-house review scored by quadrant, corner and side, not a third-party grade. This map is the card as it arrived, from the intake walk on 2026-09-12. Nine of the twenty-four zones were given a number out loud; the fifteen marked ? were described but not scored, or were not reached in the walk, so no number is claimed for them. The Before figure of 7 is the pre-grade Lucas gave the whole card at intake. The After figure of 9 is the overall he gave it after the clean, just before it went into the press; the look after the press on 2026-09-19 added no new number. The line across the holo is factory ink and is not counted as damage.

Media: intake-clean.mp4 (19:10; walk 00:00-14:47, clean from 14:47)

No defects recorded in this session (not a clean bill).

Identified on camera: Sabrina's Gengar, Gym Heroes, 2000, Pokemon 94, art by Sugimori 00:00. No holo swirls, big dots 00:00. First impression: looks like it's in pretty good condition, with a slight dent at the top 00:57. A line across the holo is spotted at 01:45 (Somebody took a marker across it?); see the next session for what it turned out to be.

Front

Top: a trace of whitening, so minuscule, likely to come out in the press 03:16. Top corner 8, top edge 9, top-right corner 9 (little indention) 03:35. Right edge 9 04:24 (said as the right side on the back while walking the front; the back walk begins at 10:57). Bottom-right corner: small whitening, if it didn't have that little edge, I'd give it a nine, no number 04:24 05:17. A ridge of light along the edge, attributed to the card being stood on its side with others, print intact 05:17. Bottom-left corner 9 05:59. Left edge 9 07:25. Top-left quadrant just perfect, with a little pressure point near Haunter 08:09; no holo bleed into the print 08:32. The card has a slight curvature from standing on its side 08:32. A couple of light scratches on the holo 10:08 10:44. Front face: 9.5 at 08:57, then 9 at 10:44.

Back

Top-left corner: a nine, man ... maybe an eight 10:57. Top edge: whitening in threes, not scored 10:57. Top-right corner: an indent, enough to give it a nine 11:53, then the top right corner ... a eight 12:24. Right edge 7, the worst of the card 12:24. This corner piece down here called the hardest 11:53 12:24, not scored. The bottom edge, bottom corners and left edge of the back were not reached in the walk; the back surface looks good 13:49, not scored.

Overall Pre-Grade 7

13:49.

2Cleaning2026-09-12 · Lucas (gloved)
Media: intake-clean.mp4 from 14:47, then press.mp4 00:00-04:30

No defects recorded in this session (not a clean bill).

Workspace cleaned, no tape this time A 14:47. Front cleaned starting at the bottom; this card did not look dirty A 15:29. Tried to lift the line on the holo A 16:12-18:42: It's not coming off. Duly noted A 18:42.

What The Line Is

Under close zoom it is rows of small squares, like Morse code, printed onto the foil; a residue around them wiped away cleanly B 00:00-00:30. A faint red blush with two little wings nearby was checked against the earlier photos and found to be on the card before any cleaning B 01:00. Definitely dried ink print B 03:30.

A Printing Characteristic

NOT A DEFECT.

Lucas's Instruction For This Report

B 03:30-04:00: the ink may come off with acetone if the owner wants to go further, but it was not attempted without his permission. Back cleaned B 02:00. Edges deliberately not pushed: the owner's cards are for his own collection, and working the whitening could leave visible trenches B 02:30-03:00.

3Press / flatten2026-09-12 · Lucas (gloved)
Media: press.mp4 04:36-12:56 (in, out for polish, back in)

No defects recorded in this session (not a clean bill).

Into the press to take out the curvature B 04:00-05:36, planned for two or three days. I'm going to give the card an overall nine B 06:02, after the clean and before pressing, with whitening still expected at the edges. Taken back out because the polish had been skipped B 06:43: polish applied evenly across the holo, which he says also makes the fine cracks less visible once dry B 07:07-09:39, then the back B 10:27. I didn't have to do any work on this one B 11:35. Back into the press with a clamp at each corner B 11:59-12:56. Came out on 2026-09-19, seven days later.

Out of the press. Looks brand new C 00:32. Some of the scratches are still there, but the smaller ones are gone C 00:44. The printed line on the holo remains, definitely something I could not take out, and he is not quite sure if it didn't cause that sort of light rust blemish C 00:44. One edge we didn't get ... too well C 01:18. No number was spoken at this sitting.

5Reveal2026-09-19 · Lucas (gloved)
Media: reveal.mp4 at 01:59

No defects recorded in this session (not a clean bill).

Closed On Camera

It is now complete C 01:59. I didn't do much bodywork on this one: cleaned, polished and pressed, with a week or two to let the fibres settle C 02:12. An open question, recorded as he put it and not answered here: can we run this as an error card? That's the question C 02:12-02:42. The overall grade on this case is the 9 he gave at B 06:02; no other number was spoken after the press.
